Indulgence Day

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011
Today, Sarah led Brittany, Erin, Max, and I to the “best Falafel you’ll find in Paris,” which was located in the Jewish/ gay district of Paris. It was probably the best Falafel I’ve ever had in my life! There’s even photos of famous people eating on the wall! The long line outside of it definitely showed its superiority to the three other Mediterranean kitchens right next door to it it!
Best, spiciest, and biggest falafel I've ever scarfed down.

The infamous l'as du fallafel restaurant

Sarah then took us a few doors down to a thrift shop she found. After rummaging through many fur coats (costing only 70 euros) and hundreds of beat up leather jackets (only 25 euros), we tried on a few sparkly, sequined dresses jokingly for our Moulin Rouge show tonight, in with elegant attire is requested. My friends forced me to buy one for 10 euros as it appeared to be surprisingly cute!

Moulin Rouge was an amazing show! I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Paris, over the age of 18. Don't know if I would have been mature enough for it a few years ago and the audience is typically an older crowd. Although many of the show girls were half naked on top, it was not as risque as I expected and was more of a theater performance, than what I'd expect a strip club/ cabaret to be. I got my presumptions from the musical film in 2001 with Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, and John Leguizamo. I think the performance had a perfect balance between erotic and classiness, as the costumes were so elaborate with their detail, sparkles, and bright colors that they drew away from the exposure. Also, the audience was dressed up elegantly and there was an equal amount of women and men in the audience. I don't want to give too much of the performance away, because I want you to see it for yourself! Also, it'd be pretty difficult to do so as there was no photography allowed in the venue!
Moulin Rouge was another instance in which I could be entertained and understand the universal language of theater by simply observing the dance and music, which was primarily in French, although there were a few English verses and an act along to "I Will Survive." Also, one of the performers grabbed a few patrons from up from to bring on stage and they all travelled from very diverse countries: Australia, Colombia, California, and France. This affirms how Paris is such a diverse city, even in its tourists! If you go, I'd highly recommend the 1/2 bottle of champagne ticket! The service was superb, as was the wine. At the end, our server offered us free champagne if we were to sit down and wait for the lengthy cue to exit the theater to dwindle down.
